IRMO, SC (WIS) - Palmetto Health presented Irmo city officials with a check for the naming rights to the town park at the city council meeting Tuesday night.
Palmetto Health donated $120,000 to put its name on the park. The total will be paid in installments of $12,000 over ten years. The naming rights remain in effect for 25 years.
"It's a blessing in the form of a check," said Council Member Harvey Hoots.
"When we broke ground over there, I said that we would find partnerships with organizations, other private companies, to help us build this park," said Mayor Pro-Tem Barry Walker. "It cost us $1.5 million, but here's $120,000 of it back."
Walker said there are plenty of opportunities for other organizations to contribute.
"We have naming rights that can be done from the picnic shelter, to walking trails, to even the children's playground," he said. "So anybody that wants to pony up for the money, we'll be more than happy to talk to you."
