WKHS flutist earns national honors

 

White Knoll High School congratulates senior flutist Sally Wright for earning a chair in the 2013 Bands of America National Honor Band. Wright is the first WKHS band student to achieve this honor. She was named one of the top 10 flutists in the United States at the audition.

SCDE to Offer Technical Assistance for Charter School Development

 

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) will conduct a free technical assistance session for individuals or groups interested in applying to open a charter school on January 30, 2013.

The workshop will cover the charter school application and the application process to assist in preparing a quality proposal. Attendees should limit their participation to no more than two representatives per applicant group.

Local student-athletes in the running to play in 2013 McDonald’s All American Games

–  McDonald’s® has announced its list of 814 prep seniors who have been nominated to play in the 2013 McDonald’s All American Games. This year’s list boasts players from 39 states and the District of Columbia who have been selected by high school coaches, athletic directors, principals and members of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee.  A total of seven players hail from the Midlands of South Carolina.

State Museum Awarding Free School Field Trip to Secrets of the Maya Exhibit

 

The South Carolina State Museum will send one lucky South Carolina school class to its spectacular new blockbuster exhibit Secrets of the Maya…for free!  In the museum’s new field trip contest, by completing the entry form on the museum’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/scstatemuseum and then clicking on the Enter Field Trip Contest tab, teachers may enter their classes from 8 a.m. Jan. 16 to Feb. 6 at midnight for a chance to win.
