Irmo soccer player scores goal... from midfield | News
IRMO, SC (WIS)- An Irmo High School senior put his team on the scoreboard within seconds of kickoff Tuesday night with a long distance strike from midfield.
Ben Hinson took the opening kick of the AAAA Boys High School Soccer Playoffs against South Pointe and put it in the back of the net -- from about 60 yards out.
Hinson's father shared the video of the goal with WIS on Thursday.
This is not the first time he's hit the back of the net from such a long distance. YouTube video shows Hinson scoring a 50-yarder against Richland Northeast earlier this season.
After seeing those long distance goals, it's probably not surprising to learn Ben was also a 3-year starting kicker/punter on the Irmo High School football team. His father says Ben plans to attend Coastal Carolina to play football for the Chanticleers.
By the way, the goal turned to be the game-winner for the Yellow Jackets.
Irmo shut out South Pointe 4-0 to advance to play Mauldin at home Thursday night at 7 p.m.
