Coroner: Two different guns were fired in Ascot Estates double-slaying | News

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says two different guns were used in the double-shooting that left a man and a woman dead Friday afternoon in the upscale Ascot Estates subdivision, but what happened inside the home has not yet been released by sheriff's department investigators.

On Saturday, Watts has identified the man and woman found shot to death at the home on Tackeria Court as 44-year-old Tammy Parker and 46-year-old Brian Capnerhurst of Batesburg-Leesville.

Parker, who owned the home with her husband, died at the scene from several gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to the coroner. She was found in the upstairs office of the home.

Capnerhurst also died of several gunshot wounds to his upper body, Watts said. He was found in an upstairs storage space near the office of the home. Watts said he died at the scene.

The incident was not a home invasion, but involved an invited guest, according to the coroner. Watts said Tammy Parker and her husband were having lunch together when her husband invited Capnerhurst over to conduct some business for the family.

"When this incident occurred yesterday Mr. And Mrs. Parker were at home having lunch," said Watts. "Mr. Parker invited Mr. Capnerhurst to come over in reference to some business dealings that they had. So he was an expected guest."

Watts said the incident was not drug-related.

Sometime after Capnerhurst arrived at the home, the shootings happened.

What exactly transpired is not clear, but Watts said the victims were "shot" and that Tammy Parker's husband was home at the time of the shootings.

Tammy's husband dialed 911 around 12:15 Friday afternoon and emergency officials responded to the scene to find Parker and Capnerhurst dead. 

Deputies said Saturday they were still interviewing Parker's husband about the incident.

Watts said investigators are not looking for anyone else in this incident and are focusing only on who was at the home at the time of the shooting.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department on Friday initially told News 10 that a deadly robbery had occurred at the home, but then retracted that information calling it "preliminary."

Sheriff's department investigators have yet to release an official statement about who was shot first or what exactly happened.

"Rumors and innuendo have been flying all over Columbia," said Watts. "I would just ask that people do two things: wait for the facts in this case to come out. The Sheriff's Department will have more details to release in the next few days. So I ask people to just wait for the facts not to assume anything until they get the facts in this case."

The Richland County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the shooting.
