South Carolina set to ShakeOut Thursday Morning | Environment

On Thursday, October 18, 2012, hundreds of thousands of people in South Carolina will join millions of participants in one of the largest earthquake drills ever conducted across the United States, the first-ever Great Southeast ShakeOut.

SCEMD invites everyone to the South Carolina State Museum to join students from Holly Hill Elementary School of Science and Technology and emergency managers as we practice “Drop Cover and Hold On” as if an earthquake were happening in South Carolina.  The signal to begin the drill will be transmitted at 10:18 a.m. via NOAA weather radio and broadcast media (TV & Radio) in your area.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division encourages everyone to take this opportunity to practice what to do during an earthquake and review your emergency plans. 

The Great Southeast ShakeOut drill is open to everyone in South Carolina.  To register yourself or an organization, go to www.shakeout.org/southeast.  Be sure to include the total number of people taking part in the drill with you.  The Southeast ShakeOut includes the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia, with more than 1.6 million people registered to date.
