Task Force Takes Action to Prevent DUI Crashes in Lexington Counties

The Community Action for a Safer Tomorrow (CAST) DUI Task Force is charged with reducing DUI crashes in Lexington County.  At the task force’s recent annual meeting, leaders presented a detailed needs assessment, which identified factors contributing to the problem of DUI crashes, and presented planned actions to address the identified problems.

Contributing factors include:

  1. There is a high level of over service to intoxicated patrons at various establishments.
  2. Drivers have a low perception of risk of being caught for DUI by law enforcement.

With the safety of patrons being the primary concern at the South Carolina State Fair, it comes as no surprise that fair operators are turning to new advances in technology to help enhance their security operations

Recently, organizers installed a property-wide network consisting of 18 cameras – most of which have the ability to remotely pan, tilt and zoom – that provide wireless video monitoring of the grounds, gates, traffic areas and parking lots.

South Carolina Electric & Gas is alerting customers about an identity theft scam convincing people of a federal assistance program for utility bills.

The scam is happening around the country and, according to Molly Morris, general manager of customer service for SCE&G, dozens of local customers are falling for the scam.

Customers have been contacted through phone calls, fliers, social media, text messages and via word of mouth with claims that President Obama is providing credits or applying payments to utility bills.
