Crimestoppers announces 30th Anniversary - 24,000 cases solved

 

Thursday Community Leaders, Media, Law Enforcement and Citizen Volunteers gathered together to celebrate 30 years of Crimestoppers – 30 successful years of community involvement and anonymity.

 

During the 30 year anniversary celebration, families of crime victim’s, law enforcement and community activists gathered at South Carolina Bank and Trust Headquarters Building in Columbia to honor a program that has done so much for the State and our citizens.

Report: Man caught stealing knives said he was going to give them as Christmas gifts

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Irmo man for shoplifting, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The report said on Friday officers responded to the Sportsman’s Warehouse located on Piney Grove Road in reference to a shoplifter in custody.

Upon arrival, deputies met with a loss prevention officer who advised deputies that he observed 22-year-old Brandon Chase Stewart pick seven knives off the rack and place them under his jacket, the report stated.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott held a press conference at a local business Thursday in the shadow of a school and neighborhood to announce that he is very concerned about a recent trend of armed robberies that is affecting the Midlands.  The Sheriff wants everyone (citizens and criminals) to be on notice of what is happening and what the Sheriff’s Department is doing and what citizens can do to help prevent it.

Sex Offenders On Probation/Parole Will Again Have Halloween Curfew

The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services will again have a curfew for offenders under its supervision for a sex offense.

A little more than 900 persons are on supervision by the department for sex offenses.
Last year, SCDPPPS did 772 residence checks and phone calls of sex offenders (offenders in some counties attended mandatory on-site events). A total of four arrests were made and an additional 12 offenders received sanctions for violations.
