Report: System hacked, 3 airline tickets stolen from travel agency | Crime

A travel agency’s system was hacked and three airline tickets valued over $11,000 were stolen.

The report said on Friday, Nov. 2 officers responded to Travel Unlimited located on Ashland Park Lane in reference to a larceny.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with an agent who advised them someone stole three airline tickets from the company, the report stated.

According to the agency’s manager Matthew DeGuire, the company was doing a normal ticket audit, when the fraud department alerted them of three unauthorized plane tickets totaling $11,578.

“We were able to catch the breach by 9 a.m. the following day,” said DeGuire.

DeGuire says an outside agent’s home computer was hacked on Thursday and three tickets were purchased on the company’s tab.

The destination for two of the tickets was Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the other ticket was for Milan, Italy.

The report said that all three of the tickets origins were in Dakar, Senegal.

“One individual made it to Italy,” said DeGuire. “Whoever it is won’t be returning to Senegal, because all three tickets were voided.

According to Deguire, it was a worldwide ticket system that was compromised.

“The case has been turned over to the FBI because it was an international security breach,” DeGuire added.
