Letter Carriers' Annual Food Drive Set for May 11

 

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 21st annual food drive to combat hunger on Saturday, May 11. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes.

 

It is the nation's largest single-day food drive, and is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

LCSD to participate in neighborhood block party

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department resident deputies will participate in a neighborhood block party in the Avalon subdivision between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 in the 200 block of Sandstone Court near Irmo.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said Irmo Resident Deputy Dan Rusinyak will coordinate the participation of the Sheriff’s Department in the neighborhood block party. Participants in the block party will receive crime prevention information.

Richland One’s MEGA DROP to provide a “Mega Impact” for Habitat for Humanity

It’s time to do some spring cleaning for a good cause. Richland One is encouraging everyone to donate furniture, appliances and other household items at its MEGA DROP to support Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Middle School, 1231 Bluefield Road.

 

MEGA DROP is a huge, one-day collection project to supply the Habitat for Humanity ReStore of Central South Carolina. All donated items are tax deductible and tax deduction forms will be provided during the event.

College offers free prom makeovers to local students

 

Remington College-Columbia Campus is again offering complimentary student salon services for local high school students headed to prom. The event is called Prom Night Makeover and the goal is to help students look and feel their best at the big dance - all at no cost.

Some of the services provided will include updos, manicures, pedicures, makeup for girls, and haircuts for guys. 

The complimentary student salon services will be available on the following days:

Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8738 in Lexington on Tuesday, April 23 honored Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Brian Travis as the organization’s Public Servant Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2013 and the Public Servant Law Enforcement Officer of the year for 2013 for the Veteran of Foreign Wars Department of South Carolina.
