Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts promoted one Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy to serve as the supervisor of the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET).
Metts promoted Sam Gunter, 48, of Gilbert, to the rank of lieutenant and assigned Gunter to supervise NET. Gunter previously held the rank of sergeant and supervised code enforcement officers, resident deputies and school resource officers in the West Region Patrol District, which is based near Gilbert.
Gunter also previously served as a NET detective, Metts said. On August 19, 1991, Metts appointed Gunter to serve as a deputy.
NET is comprised of officers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Batesburg-Leesville Police Department, Irmo Police Department and Lexington Police Department, Metts said. The sheriff and municipal police chiefs implemented NET in 2001 in order to enhance drug enforcement in Lexington County.
