Irmo Little League Majors won the 12 year old 2012 South Carolina Little League State Championship held in Kingstree, South Carolina, July 9-15. For Irmo, winning the state title earns them a spot at the 2012 Southeastern Regional Tournament in Warner Robins, Georgia. The tournament will be held at Southeast Park, one of the finest youth baseball facilities in the nation. South Carolina will join seven other state champions from Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida.
“Most of these boys have been playing together for several years now. The commitment they have made to play baseball and at such a high level will not only bring recognition to South Carolina but, more importantly, to the entire community. I am very proud of these young boys,” said John Ecton, who coaches the team along with Alan Beatty, Darren Jones, and Joe Geter.
Each team will play three games in pool play. South Carolina will play West Virginia on Friday, August 3 at 10 am, Virginia on Saturday, August 4 at 7 pm, and Tennessee on Monday, August 6 at 1 pm. At the conclusion of pool play, every team with a 2-1 record or better will be seeded according to Little League guidelines and advance to the single elimination round beginning on Wednesday, August 8 on ESPN 2. The tournament will end with the championship game being played on Friday, August 10 on ESPN at 7 pm, to determine who will make it to The Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
