Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission Breaks Ground for Senior Center Expansion at Seven Oaks Park | Business
The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC) will break ground for the Senior Center Expansion at Seven Oaks Park on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Seven Oaks Park, located at 200 Leisure Lane in Columbia, will add an additional 5,000 square feet of space to its existing facilities for senior programs and activities. The Park serves as a Council on Aging, offering senior supports services, health and wellness programs, social activities and a meal site which serves over 23,000 meals annually to seniors in the Irmo Chapin community.
Design plans include the addition of a large activity room that can be sub-divided into three separate rooms, an expansion of the existing fitness area, designated access to restrooms from the senior addition, and two offices for senior staff.
“The expansion of the Seven Oaks Park Senior Center offers much needed space to accommodate the growth of the senior population and the rising needs of seniors in our community” says Elizabeth B. Taylor, Executive Director for the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. “The new facility will allow ICRC to offer additional programs and activities for seniors and to accommodate the increase in our meal site program participation.”
The Senior Center Expansion at Seven Oaks Park is being developed by the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission (ICRC) with financial assistance through a grant from the Permanent Improvement Project (PIP) Lt. Governor’s Council on Aging.
ICRC exists to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of the district through the development of recreation programs that promote a lifestyle of wellness, physical activities and cultural experiences for all ages. For more information please call 772-1228.
