Carolina Wind Symphony presents free concert | Arts & Culture
The Carolina Wind Symphony will present a free concert on Monday, May 13, at 7:30 PM at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, 201 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo. The concert program will include the first South Carolina performance of "Sheltering Sky" by John Mackey; the premiere performance of "Castlerigg Stone Circle" by Larry Shackley, who dedicated this composition to the Bands of Irmo High School and the late Bruce Dinkins, who for many years served as I H S Band Director; "O Waly Waly," by Jay Bocook, who based the modern Celtic composition in part on "Carolina," the South Carolina state song; also "Down a Country Lane" by Aaron Copland; "In the Shining of the Stars" by Robert Sheldon; "Courtly Airs and Dances" by Ron Nelson. Several other pieces, selected to illustrate symphonic excellence of composition and performance will complete the program. The Carolina Wind Symphony, under the direction of C. T. Franklin, concludes its third year with this concert. The next concert will be in November, 2013. The public is invited and welcome!
