SC Pride Week in Columbia | Arts & Culture

The South Carolina Pride Movement is proud to announce that this year South Carolina Pride Week will begin on Sunday, October 14 and end on Sunday, October 21 with exciting events happening everyday in between. Highlights of the week include performances by Sheena Easton and Shannon.

Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 P.M. – “Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story” – Columbia Museum of Art, located on the corner of Hampton and Main Streets. Evening includes a screening of the documentary with a brief discussion of “fag hags” by Ed Madden, USC Professor of English and Women’s Studies. There will be a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres. Admission is $10 ($8 for Museum or Pride Members).

Wednesday, October 17 - 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. SC Pride Black Pride presents Road to the Main Event – The Sheraton Vault – 1400 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201 – Free admission with a cash bar and Hors D’oeuvres.

Thursday, October 18 at 8:00 P.M. Screening of “Keep the Lights On” at the Nickelodeon – 1607 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201 (Film begins at 8:30 P.M.)

Friday, October 19, 2012 – 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. – Pride in the City – Sheraton Rooftop – 1400 Main Street – Columbia, SC 29201 – Cash Bar

Saturday, October 20, 2012

12:00 Noon – SC Pride Parade – Main Street - The Parade will begin on the corner of Main and Laurel Streets and head south, towards the State House, it will turn west on Hampton Street for one block and then turn onto Sumter Street and  head south again until it turns east on Gervais Street and it will end in front of the State House.

1:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.  – The Main Event (SC Pride Festival) – Main Street – Admission to the festival is free however there are VIP tickets for $35 in advance /$40 day of and Ultra VIP tickets available for $100. (You must be at least 21 years old to have a VIP or Ultra VIP ticket. This year we are moving the SC Pride Festival to Main Street between Hampton Street and Gervais Street with the SC State house as a backdrop for our main stage. As always, there will be plenty of vendors, excellent speakers and world-class entertainment but this year in addition to the location change we are making a few other changes. The South Carolina Pride Movement is for everyone and we want everyone to feel welcome so this year we are including the Family Pride area, which will be on Washington Street and include a petting zoo, a bouncy castle and vendors tailored towards families including the Richland County Public library. We are also introducing a second stage this year that will feature local performers and entertainment.  Our main–stage speakers this year will include Marcia Clarke, Jimmy Creech, City Councilman Sam Davis and County Councilman Kelvin E. Washington Sr. Entertainers on our main stage include the winner of Pride Talent 2012, Chase W. Nelson, pop and dance music artist Reina, straight from RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Chad Michaels and Grammy award winning artist Sheena Easton.

9:00 P.M. – 2:00 A.M. – Let The Music Play/Official After Party – Chelsea’s Upstairs – 1734 Main Street - $15 cover- No one under 18 admitted - Entertainment for the after party features recording artist, Shannon known for songs such as “Let the Music Play” and “Give Me Tonight” , DJ Trevor/DJ Joseph and spotlight performances by local drag performers.

Sunday, October 21 at 2:00 P.M. – SC Pride Picnic at the Harriet Hancock LGBT Center – 1108 Woodrow Street, Columbia, SC 29205 Everyone is welcome!
