Multi-day Art Event Celebrates Nature at Saluda Shoals Park | Arts & Culture

unearth, a celebration of naturally inspired art will be held at Saluda Shoals Park from Friday, October 5 to Sunday, October 7, 2012. This annual celebration of the arts showcases visual, and performing arts in an outdoor setting. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in art, nature, and the creative process.  This unique multi-day art extravaganza includes: a photography contest, demonstrations and instruction by artists, a variety of musical and dance performances, and an outdoor production of the stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by the SC Shakespeare Company.

Activities include:

Monday, October 1-Sunday, October 7

unearth Amateur Photography Contest – Photographs on display at the Environmental Center at Saluda Shoals Park from October 1 – 6 and then near the main stage on October 7th.  Winners will be announced on the unearth Main Stage at 1:00 pm on October 7th.

Friday, October 5 –Sunday, October 7

SC Shakespeare Company presents Pride and Prejudice. Performances will be held on the Environmental Education Center deck at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Tickets are $10/Adult and $5/Child (12 and other).

Sunday, October 7

A Nature-Inspired Celebration of Art! Experience the creative process as artists share their talents in a natural setting. Visitors will find more than 40 artists including painters, sculptors, dancers, and musicians creating and performing along the Park’s trails. Children can enjoy hand-on art activities including building fairy houses and other fairy-centered activities at Nature’s Studio. The Riverfront stage will feature a variety of performing artists including Bobby Houck & Hank Futch of the Blue Dogs and Friends.  unearth will conclude with a concert by the Lake Murray Symphony Orchestra.  There will be a $5 parking fee.

Riverfront Stage Performances include: Bobby Houck and Hank Futch of The Blue Dogs with special guest – Phillip Lamonds, Tyler Mechem of Crowfield, and Doug Jones of Cravin’ Melon.

“unearth allows people to see through the eyes of an artist what the park means in human terms,” says Fred B. Johnston, Chairman of the Saluda Shoals Foundation. “This event communicates the essence and spirit of Saluda Shoals Park.” 

unearth is presented by the Saluda Shoals Foundation and Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission. The Saluda Shoals Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to serving as a steward of and an advocate for the preservation and sustainability Saluda Shoals Park programs and the environment.
